Dear Editor, As a resident of the Ocean Park community of Santa Monica I truly love to ride my bike on the beach bike path. As such, I was shocked to have a very unfriendly encounter with a police officer in Redondo Beach this weekend while peacefully riding on the bike path.

If you have seen the bright green “trees” on the corner of Ocean Park Boulevard and 2nd Street and wondered what they are, they are one of two sets of new artist-designed bicycle racks that have been installed as a part of the public art element of the Ocean Park Boulevard “Complete Greenstreet” Project.

I just wanted to give my public thanks to the City of Santa Monica for their continued effort to make life safer for all its bicyclists. 14th Street and Ocean Park Blvd. bike lanes have been completed and are very welcome. Where cars park along the curb the bike lane has been made wide enough that, if someone suddenly opening their car door, it won't send you sprawling on the pavement as long as you're riding toward the outside of the bike lane.
