The Santa Monica Public Library has earned top marks from
Library Journal’s national rating of public libraries – the only
Southern California library to earn the prestigious five-star rating.
This is the fourth year in a row the library has earned this accolade.
The Library Journal
(LJ) Index of Public Library Service 2013 ratings, announced Nov. 1, are based on 2011 data from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
LJ Index ranked 7,573 public libraries on the level of service
they provide by evaluating per capita circulation, visits, program
attendance and public Internet computer use. A total of 263 public
libraries earned three, four, or the highest, five-star
Index offers an overall indication of how a library’s performance
stacks up to peer libraries and provides guidance on how public
libraries can better inform their stakeholders
of achievements, service opportunities, and improve library awareness
Acting City Librarian Wright Rix said the
Santa Monica Public Library is a vibrant community center where people
connect with new ideas by checking out library materials, getting online
and taking part in events like author visits
"Whether you are interested in learning, recreation or
pursuing career goals, the library contains a wealth of resources,” Rix said.
Library offers a variety of services and engaging programs for all ages
and interests at four neighborhood library locations.
