Grant Elementary School students who participated in this year’s Ballroom Madness will be highlighted in an episode of LA ArtZone, an arts and cultural show hosted by Los Angeles County public access Channel 36.
LA ArtZone filmed fifth graders on Nov. 20 practicing their moves as their teachers guide them through the various dance steps included in Ballroom Madness.
The filming included interviews with Tom Whaley, the school district’s Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator; Shirley Compton, Principal of Grant Elementary School; Daniel Ponickly, the Ballroom Madness artistic director; a representative from Arts For All; and students.
"I am very proud of our fifth grade students for their positive attitudes, dynamism and learning of a variety of dances within just a few weeks,” said Compton. “Our Ballroom Dance class is a wonderful opportunity for our students, promoting positive social interaction, movement, coordination, and a willingness to accept a challenge and succeed."
Ballroom Madness is a non-profit arts-in-education program designed for fifth grade students to learn how to Social/Ballroom Dance.
LA ArtZone is produced by the Los Angeles County Channel, showcasing LA County-supported museums, venues, and art programs.
The episodes air year-round and can be found online at www.lacountychannel.com.
