On Thursday, May 16, at 4:44 p.m., officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to investigate a domestic violence report in the 1500 block of Santa Monica Boulevard.

When they arrived at the scene the officers detained a male suspect and spoke with the female victim, who turned out to be the cohabiting girlfriend of the suspect.

The officers discovered, through their investigation, that this couple had been in a relationship for about two years and had been involved in an argument after the suspect had accused the victim of “cheating on him.”

The victim had at one point attempted to collect her belongings together to leave when the suspect had thrown her down to the floor.

The suspect had then pulled out a Japanese Samurai style sword, placed the sharp blade next to her throat, and informed her that her life was going to end, telling her he was going to kill her.

The suspect then reinforced his malevolent intent by smashing her head into the kitchen cabinets and choking her.

A witness was able to intervene and stop the assault, restraining the suspect until the arrival of the officers.

The suspect, aged 33 years, and a resident of Santa Monica, was arrested and charged with domestic violence, criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon, and a violation of probation.

Bail was set at $50,000.
