The Venice Neighborhood Council held a forum regarding Santa Monica Airport on April 27.

Los Angeles City Attorney candidates Carmen Trutanich (incumbent) and Mike Feuer spoke and answered questions regarding the concerns of Los Angeles residents from Venice, Mar Vista, and other West LA neighborhoods affected by Santa Monica Airport’s (SMO) operations.

Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution (CRAAP) director Martin Rubin said Trutanich has met with its members as well as other groups regarding the health and safety concerns relating to SMO.

“I have been very disappointed in the attention we got from the City Attorney, given this is an issue that concerns the health and safety of many thousands of Westside Los Angeles residents,” Rubin said. “Citing budget constraints is not an acceptable reason for such an important issue.”

At the Venice forum, Trutanich argued how LAX made it difficult to pursue action since Los Angeles would have to answer to the same arguments.

Feuer, on the other hand, offered several possible actionable routes that could be pursued.

“We need a City Attorney who believes we have options and is willing to pursue them,” Rubin said.
