The Santa Monica Little League will host its opening day
this Saturday, March 2 at Memorial Park at Olympic and 14th Street.
Here is the schedule of
events for the day:
• 9-10 am: Home Run Derby on Majors Field
sponsored by Rosti Tuscan Kitchen. The derby will be announced by Eugene Jones
and Punch Hyde White.
• 9-10 am: Clinics for pitching, hitting,
fielding, and catching on Minors Field.
• 9-11 am: Tee ball, machine pitch, plus
rookies uniform distribution adjacent to batting cages.
• 9 am to noon: Equipment exchange conducted
adjacent to snack bar.
• 10-10:20
am: Majors Field Honor sponsors and last years TOC Yankees, TOC Giants, and
Seniors District Champions.
• 10:20-10:25 am: Jerry Royster to speak,
welcome all to opening day.
• 10:25-10:40 am: Majors teams to warm up.
• 10:40 am: Introduction of SMLL Board
Members.
• 10:45 am: Little League Pledge.
• 10:45 am: National Anthem performed by Jaq
Curtis.
• 10:50 am: Mayor of Santa Monica Pam O’Conner
throwing out first pitch.
• 11 am: First Majors game.
This year will also mark the first annual Home Run Derby,
sponsored by Rosti Tuscan Kitchen, which is located at 931 Montana Avenue,
Santa Monica.
There will be two rounds of batting by two members of the
six major baseball teams. The finalist will compete in the second round to
crown a winner.
The winner will be presented a trophy by Rosti Tuscan
Kitchen with free pizza for a year at the restaurant.
