A new exhibition opens this weekend in the Main Gallery at Edgemar Center of the Arts on Main Street showcasing the paintings of long-time Santa Monica resident Marianne R.K. (aka Marika).
The exhibition begins with a reception open to the public this Saturday, Jan. 12 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with wine and cheese served. The exhibition will continue through March 24, 2013.
Works displayed will be acrylic on canvas. Subjects vary: abstracts; landscapes; flowers; figurative. A strong sense of color is evident in all.
Born in Budapest, Marika lived in Paris, then attended Montreal School of Fine Arts.
Her works have been shown in Montreal and Los Angeles and she is the author of memoir “All the Pretty Shoes.”
“For the past many years, I experimented with different mediums such as oil, water and acrylic,” she said. “Today, I use mainly acrylic although at times I experimented with mirrors and impasto. I find there are a few things in life I could not live without: music, colors, and shapes. I am grateful that I can create images that come straight from within my soul.”
The Edgemar Center for the Arts is located at 2437 Main Street, Santa Monica.
