Congressman Tim Ryan will be speak about his new book at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica on Monday.

Santa Monica meditation and teaching center InsightLA will host a talk and discussion at The Broad Stage on Monday night featuring Congressman Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), author of the new book “A Mindful Nation: How a Simple Practice Can Help Us Reduce Stress, Improve Performance, and Recapture the American Spirit.”

Congressman Ryan – the highest-ranking elected U.S. official to champion the benefits of mindfulness – will discuss how mindfulness, a natural capability of our brains, is starting to revitalize every sector of society, including schools, hospitals, doctors’ offices, the military, and other vital institutions.

“A Mindful Nation” explores the extensive scientific research that supports the benefits of mindfulness and offers powerful stories from the field.

It describes how mindfulness practice can help children become competitive in the world arena, veterans heal from trauma, business managers become more effective leaders, top athletes improve performance, first responders build resiliency, families develop parenting skills, and medical practitioners enhance our health-care system.

Congressman Ryan, who has his own mindfulness meditation practice, will elaborate on how more and more Americans are learning to live more mindfully, and he’ll make the case – from the point of view of a successful politician – that every American can benefit as a more mindful nation with reduced stress, improved performance, and a restoration of what he calls “the can-do American spirit.”

Congressman Ryan, who holds a law degree from University of New Hampshire, sits on both the House Armed Services Committee and the Budget Committee.

He resides in Niles, Ohio, the town where he was born in 1973.

InsightLA is a non-profit organization founded by psychologist and meditation teacher Trudy Goodman, Ph.D., and is dedicated to mindfulness training.

Ticket range from $40 to $120.
