Transient Dies After Struck By Car

After nearly a week in critical condition, a transient man has died from injuries sustained when he was struck by a car on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica.

This 64-year-old man, attributed as a Santa Monica transient, was jaywalking on Feb. 15 not far from the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Arizona Boulevard when he was hit by a 66-year-old Santa Clarita man, Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) officials indicated. It was shortly before 3:20 a.m. and SMPD officials described the scene as dark and misty.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver was traveling northbound on Ocean Avenue approaching Arizona Avenue. The pedestrian was walking westbound across Ocean Avenue, south of Arizona Avenue outside of the crosswalk. The driver struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle was interviewed at the location and released. The police are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision. On Feb. 21 police officials were notified that the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital.
