haleARTS Presents Free Opening Reception On Main Street Tonight:

haleARTS S P A C E on Main Street will host an opening reception tonight, Dec. 27 from 5-8 pm for a new a group show featuring the work of Ione Citrin and Camey McGilvray.

Attendees are encouraged to peruse accessibly priced work while enjoying white wine and freshly popped popcorn. The show will run through Jan 8.

Citrin is an avant-garde artist whose artistic expression takes fantastic shape through her diverse oil and watercolor paintings.

Her contemporary paintings range from abstract to realistic to impressionistic – all visionary interpretations from her imaginative soul.

“When I paint, I dip my brush in my soul,” Citrin said. “Being an artist is a life force, not a career choice. Each piece represents a fragment of my life’s work. I present the world artistically as I see it, as I wish to see it, and occasionally as I once saw it. It is my identity. Without this expression of self, I am nothing. Through my art I give love.”

McGilvray pays tribute to the avant-garde artists of the early 20th century who have had an enormous impact on modern art and who have informed her own work as well.

She uses bright colors, flat planes, and abstract shapes to create wood and metal sculptures that echo the spirit of artists of this period, such as Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp.

By creating three-dimensional mixed media works, McGilvray adapts modernist fragmentation one step further, crossing the divide between the artwork and the viewer. This unification of space brings McGilvray’s art into our own reality and explores the dynamic relationship between art and life for which these early 20th century artists paved the way.
