Lincoln Middle School Theatre Presents “The Wizard Of Oz” This Weekend:

Lincoln Middle School Theatre presents a modern staging of the classic film “The Wizard of Oz” with multiple shows today through Sunday, Feb. 24.

The performances will be held at the Lincoln Middle School auditorium, 1501 California Avenue in Santa Monica.

The young actors have been rehearsing twice a week since September, as well as attending workshops by performers who were formerly on Broadway or part of prestigious theatrical companies such as Cirque du Soleil and Stomp.

The unique vision for the production was to create a world not commonly associated with this show, using “found” items wherever possible. Costumes were made from vintage store finds while an abundance of rolling set pieces give the show a mobile presence, allowing the audience to witness the set changes, and to use their imagination to visualize various aspects of the show.

Director Chad Jason Scheppner, back for his third consecutive year at Lincoln Middle School Theatre, has worked as a teacher, director, writer, workshop organizer instructor, and administrator of the performing arts for children and adults for the past 20 years.

As the founder of Theatre 31, his overall objective is to provide fun, non-competitive performing arts classes that give students the opportunity to strengthen their skills and build self-esteem, courage, confidence and compassion in their lives and their art.

This weekend’s program is made possible through the generous contributions of the Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation, the Lincoln Middle School PTSA, as well as a team of dedicated parents volunteers.

The performances times are as follows: Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 pm, Saturday Feb. 23 at 2 pm and 7 pm, and Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 pm.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
