I’m Getting My Nostril Pierced – I Think…:

I think I’m going to get my nose pierced. Yes, my nose, my right nostril. I thought about it for a long time. I’ve done my research, and I’m ready.

Why do I want to so this? I think it’s really pretty and it has an edge to it. I like that combo. I’m going to get a tiny diamond. The great thing about it is I can take it out whenever I want (maybe to a new client meeting?) and if I decide it’s not for me, I can take it out permanently and it will heal with no signs of being pierced.

Many of my friends over 50 have tattoos – some of those women you might see quite often, and you’d never know they have one. The problem with tattoos is once you have one, it’s difficult to remove. (And honestly, I’m not a tattoo girl.)

I did some research about my upcoming nostril piercing and found that it’s very important when getting any piercing to make sure that you go to a good studio, that they have an experienced piercer, and that they use good quality jewelry. After learning a little bit about the process, I was surprised to hear how quick and easy and virtually painless it is. We’ll see.

When I go for my piercing, the process should be simple. They told me that first they will use a surgical scrub on the area for about 30 seconds. Then they will make a little mark in the spot where the jewel will go, so I will be able check it out and make sure it’s where I want it to be.

They then insert a small-ish needle to pierce the nostril (I’ll feel some pressure) followed by the jewel, and then clean once more. Voila. Done. My nostril will be pierced!

The studio I consulting with told me that a nose piercing is a simple piercing to have, and doesn’t cause a lot of pain. They explained that nostril piercing is difficult for the “piercer” to make a mistake on. Good to know. God forbid they miss my ear. Where would it end up.

Once my nostril is pierced, they advised me to keep the pierced area very clean; this will speed up the healing process. Also, they said it can take a bit of getting used to when you first have it done, and simple things like blowing your nose and sneezing can be a new experience. Thank god I don’t have allergies. I’d hate to have that little diamond shoot across the room from my excessive sneezing!

I’m gonna do it. Soon. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
