The Santa Monica Pier has been chosen as one of 30 venues in the Los Angeles area to participate in the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) “Play Me, I’m Yours” piano art installation in celebration of pianist and conductor Jeffrey Kahane’s 15th anniversary season as LACO music director.
The Piano is currently at the Santa Monica Pier and after an installation launch was held on Thursday with a simultaneous play-in of Bach’s Preludes from “The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book” and the other 29 pianos located throughout the city.
The public is invited to join in the “Play Me, I’m Yours” Pier experience, which is located just west of Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. on the Pier.
The piano will remain at the Pier for three weeks – so come and play your favorite tune or plunk a few notes or simply enjoy as others make music.
“We were delighted to support the LA Chamber Orchestra and the local arts community with the “Play Me, I’m Yours” piano art installation,” said Jim Harris, Deputy Director at Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation.
Touring internationally since 2008, “Play Me, I’m Yours” is an artwork installation by artist Luke Jerram. All of the pianos are designed and decorated by local artists and community organizations that are then featured across Los Angeles County and are available for everyone to play.
A second Santa Monica piano art installation is at the Annenberg Community Beach House.
