A 30-year-old Venice man was arrested on Saturday, Oct. 13 in a Santa Monica alley for possessing drugs, a weapon, and being unlicensed.

Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department who were patrolling in the area of Alley Number Nine heard a loud commotion coming from within the alley at 9 p.m.

The officers noticed a woman getting out of a red Toyota Corolla.

The officers approached the driver of the vehicle and as they did so, they saw the driver hide something in the center console of the car.

The officers spoke with this driver and discovered that he had a suspended driver’s license.

The officers then searched the vehicle and discovered some methamphetamine, two glass pipes for the smoking of, and some Shuriken (a traditional Japanese star shaped weapon that was generally used for throwing, and sometimes stabbing or slashing).

The officers arrested this Venice resident and he was charged with possession of a Shuriken, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a device used for controlled substances, and being an unlicensed driver. Bail was set at $20,000.

Editor's Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled "Alert Police Blotter" (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror's coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website,
