A public tree-planting event in Sunset Park was canceled last Saturday due to rain, but it has been rescheduled for this Saturday, Dec. 8.

City of Santa Monica staff, volunteers from Siemens Corporation, and the non-profit organization Alliance for Community Trees will be leading the effort.

The public is invited to join this half-day event and help plant Arbutus 'Marina' trees.

The tree planting initiative is made possible by a generous gift awarded to Santa Monica in April of this year, as the midsize community recipient of the 2012 Siemens Sustainable Community Award from the Siemens Corporation and the Business Civic Leadership Center. The award provided $20,000 for tree planting.

It will be held 8 a.m. to noon at 18th Street between Ocean Park Boulevard and Navy Street.

Refreshments and continental breakfast will be provided
