Santa Monica is in the running to win up to $5 million to measurably improve wellbeing in this community as it is a finalist in the Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Challenge, but the City needs the support of residents to be in the running for a further $50,000.
To make things more interesting, the Huffington Post is running a contest where one of the Top 20 Mayors Challenge Finalists will win the title of ‘Fan Favorite’ and $50,000.

Santa Monica is also asking for help spreading the word about the contest.
The Huffington Post Fan Favorite Contest ends March 6.
“When Bloomberg Philanthropies called upon cities for their most innovative solutions to major challenges, Santa Monica responded with what we believe to be the biggest, most pressing issue of them all… human wellbeing," said Santa Monica Mayor Pam O’Connor. "Specifically, how can cities use limited resources more effectively to create conditions needed for people to thrive? We’re thrilled to be a Mayors Challenge Finalist and Huffington Post Fan Favorite contender.”
The Mayors Challenge is a competition designed to spur innovation in local government.
All U.S. cities with 30,000 residents or more were eligible to enter. Out of 305 entries, Santa Monica was named a Top 20 Finalist and invited to participate further.
The top five entries will share $9 million in prizes. Mayors Challenge winners will be announced this spring.
