A 20-year grudge ended with a man assaulted twice inside Rusty’s Surf Ranch on Aug. 30.

At 11:06 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the restaurant and bar, located at 256 Santa Monica Pier in order to investigate a fight.

When they arrived the officers spoke with the victim who told them he had just arrived at the location and was standing by the stage when the first suspect approached him and asked him to step outside the club.

The victim declined this invitation and at that point the suspect head butted him and followed that up with a punch to the head, all for no apparent reason, it seemed.

The victim walked to the front door in order to report the incident to security and as he was doing so the second suspect punched him in the back of the head.

The victim fell down to the ground and the suspects fled the scene.

The officers went in search of these two men and found the second suspect in the 1600 block of Appian Way, whereupon he was identified and arrested.

The other suspect, who was identified as the brother of the arrested suspect, was not located at the time of this report.

The officers later learned that the attack upon the victim was in retaliation for an incident that took place more than 20 years ago in San Diego.

The second suspect, aged 38 and a resident of Pacific Palisades was charged with assault and battery. His bail was set at $20,000.

The investigation is ongoing.
