Santa Monica police arrested a 34-year-old man on Friday, Dec. 7 for assaulting his girlfriend after a long night of arguing.
At 4:02 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a residence in the 700 block of Ashland Avenue after they had received a report of a domestic violence incident in progress.
The caller had heard sounds of screaming and breaking glass.
When the officers arrived they were directed to the relevant apartment and spoke with the two residents.
The officers discovered that these two individuals were in a relationship and had been cohabiting for a year.
They had both been out at a local business that evening and while they were there they had become embroiled in an argument.
Upon returning home the argument continued and they both began to express themselves by smashing up their own property within the confines of their apartment.
The officers noticed the female half of this pair had swelling developing under her eye, and when asked about this, the male half denied any knowledge of any physical altercation.
The officers took note that the man and woman had given conflicting statements.
The officers decided to arrest the man, aged 35, and a Santa Monica resident and he was charged with inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant.
Bail was set at $50,000.
