A Pomona man who turned violent against his girlfriend for giving him wrong directions to Santa Monica beach was arrested on Aug. 10.
At 2 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the Santa Monica Fire Department Headquarters at 1444 Seventh Street in response to the domestic violence report.
When they arrived they spoke with the female victim. She told the officers she had come to Santa Monica that day for a nice time at the beach with her boyfriend, and his 15-year-old disabled daughter.
She said that they had been in a relationship for the past year, and that they lived together in Pomona.
When they had arrived in Santa Monica the boyfriend had requested that she ask a pedestrian for directions to the beach, and she had dutifully obliged to the said request.
The problem arose when she had misinterpreted the directions, and had given the wrong information to her boyfriend.
The boyfriend had become engulfed in a state of immense rage at this news, and had stopped the car in the alley behind the fire department.
He then yelled at the woman to get out of the car while exclaiming she was “a dumb bitch.” The woman had then opened the car door in order to comply but he had then pushed her from the vehicle.
Once she was out of the car the boyfriend, somewhat strangely, had then shouted at her to get back in the car.
The woman said that she was reluctant to do this because her boyfriend was intoxicated by both alcohol and drugs, and had been abusive on past occasions.
The boyfriend then got out of the car and ordered the woman to re-enter the vehicle, but again she refused, so he grabbed her by her shoulders and threw her against the car. He also grabbed her by her hair and attempted to force her back into the vehicle.
At this point several residents came out and started to yell at him to stop.
This distracted the boyfriend long enough for the woman to break away and run northbound, flag down a pedestrian, and call 911. The boyfriend drove away.
The Santa Monica officers subsequently contacted the Pomona Police Department and told them about the incident, and a few hours later Pomona police called Santa Monica police back and told them they had the boyfriend in custody.
A team of Santa Monica police personnel traveled to Pomona and brought this man back to Santa Monica.
This 51-year-old resident of Pomona was then charged with domestic violence. His bail was set at $50,000.
