SMRR Steering Committee Votes To Endorse Vazquez, O'Day

Santa Monicans for Renters' Rights’s steering committee voted Saturday to endorse Tony Vazquez and Terry O’Day in the race for City Council, which will see residents go to the polls on Nov. 6.
It follows the organization’s three rounds of voting last Sunday where Ted Winterer and Gleam Davis claimed endorsements.
Neither former Council member Vazquez or incumbent O'Day received enough votes last Sunday.
But since there are four open seats on the Santa Monica City Council, SMRR's steering committee decided to endorse two more candidates and voted at about noon on Saturday at a member’s home after a two hour meeting.
Vazquez was elected as the City’s first Latino City Council member in 1990, but lost his seat in 1994.
Incumbent council member O'Day was appointed to replace the late Ken Genser in February 2010.

If you can't garner the endorsement fair and square by voote of the membership fear not! A backroom deal with the Steering Committee will carry the day. But SMRR cares about its members and will always protect their interests whether they agree with the organization's bosses or not. Why even bother with a vote if the membership's wishes can so conveniently, and undemocratically, be overturned?
