Marina del Rey Security Guard Charged With Murder:

Latest police news and updates.

A former security guard at a Marina del Rey apartment complex was convicted today of first-degree murder for gunning down his supervisor.

Jurors deliberated about 1 1/2 hours before returning their verdict against Byron Keith Street, 48, of Inglewood.

The panel also found true a special circumstance allegation that Patrick Odoi-Kyene, 47, was murdered during the course of a burglary, along with an allegation that Street personally and intentionally discharged a handgun.

Street was also convicted of one count each of first-degree burglary, false personation and use of a counterfeit seal, along with three counts of vandalism.

Odoi-Kyene was found shot to death shortly before 3 a.m. on Dec. 30, 2013, outside the Shores apartment complex in the 4200 block of Via Marina.

Street denied being involved in the killing, but a co-worker testified that he saw Street shoot at Odoi-Kyene, the Daily Breeze reported.

Another co-worker testified that Street and Odoi-Kyene had a confrontation a day earlier over Street’s decision to bring his girlfriend to work, the newspaper reported.

Street is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole, with sentencing set next Thursday at the Airport Branch Courthouse in Los Angeles.
