A 35-year-old man caught sleeping in Palisades Park shrubbery was arrested Thursday, Nov. 15 for resisting officers and damaging the shrub.

At 7:55 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called to the 1200 block of Palisades Park to investigate reports of a man sleeping in some shrubbery.

When the officers arrived at the park they approached the shrubbery and noticed the man had damaged it.

This man had made a hole in the shrubbery in order to conceal himself within it.

The officers commanded the man to exit the shrubbery and he crawled out, but after he had risen onto his two feet he accelerated away, running eastbound across Ocean Avenue, nearly being hit by several vehicles as he traversed the traffic at high speed.

The officers displayed a higher rate of speed and this man was apprehended at the intersection of Third Street and Wilshire Boulevard.

This man of no fixed abode was charged with resisting officers and a pair of municipal code violations concerning the park and shrubbery.

His bail was set at $10,000.
