A 34-year-old man with an apparent rather expensive taste for neck attire was arrested Friday, July 12 after stealing a $375 scarf from a Santa Monica department store.
At 6:30 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were informed, via their radio system, that a suspect was in custody of the loss prevention agents at a store at Santa Monica Place.
The officers spoke with the loss prevention agents who explained to them why they had this person in their custody.
They said that they had been keeping this man under surveillance via an in-house closed circuit camera system and had watched as the man picked up a $375 Burberry scarf and put it into his pants.
This man then walked out of the store without attempting to pay for the scarf.
The loss prevention agents then apprehended the man outside the store and removed the scarf from the man’s pants and escorted him back into the department store.
The loss prevention agents then compiled an incident report and called the police.
The management of the store desired that this man face the legal consequences of his actions and so a loss prevention agent signed a Private Person’s Arrest Form.
This Los Angeles man was arrested and charged with shoplifting.
His bail was set at $1,000.
