Posted Mar. 17, 2010, 5:00 pm

Staff Report

Santa Monica's highly regarded former city manager who retired in January, has accepted a job as Culver City’s interim city manager until July as the city looks for a permanent replacement.

Culver City’s former city manager, Mark Scott, left office after only nine months to take the helm of city manager position in his hometown, Fresno.

Lamont Ewell, who will make $20,000 per month, said he has no plans to apply for the permanent position and is only accepting the job in between retirement vacations with his family as a way to transition from working into retirement.

Ewell will be taking on the task of drafting Culver City’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year in a time when the city is facing a deficit of as high as $6.5 million with a $83 million budget. Culver City’s council unanimously approved Ewell for the position last week.
