A 41-year-old man was arrested Friday, Nov. 9 after running from police and throwing away a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine.
At 6:15 p.m., officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on routine patrol when they stopped at the intersection of 15th Street and Wilshire Boulevard and saw a man at the corner of 14th Street and Wilshire Boulevard fail to wait for the red traffic signal and cross against it.
The officers drove up to the man who was by that time walking southbound on the west sidewalk of 14th Street.
When the officers told this man that they wanted to talk with him about the red light violation, the man suddenly turned and began running away northbound on 14th Street.
The officers did a u-turn, followed the man, and as they did they saw he had thrown an item towards a residence as he had run past it.
The officers caught up with the man who then sat down.
The officers retraced this man’s steps and discovered he had thrown away a glass pipe of the kind used for smoking methamphetamine.
The officers arrested this homeless man and he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation.
Bail was set at $20,250.
