Santa Monica Public Library continues its fall college-prep and academic success programming with several new offerings for October. All programs are free and open to the public. Note that some programs do require advance registration, as noted below.

Programs at the Main Library (601 Santa Monica Boulevard):

·         One-on-One College Essay Workshops, Saturday, October 3 and Saturday, October 24. Registration required; no walk-ins. High school seniors can sign up for a private, 30-minute session with Diana Hanson of College Mentors. She’ll review their college application essay (or essay in progress) and provide feedback. Limit 10 students per day. If you like, sign up for both dates, and bring your revised essay for Diana to look at again. Call 310-458-8621 or visit Main Library Youth Services to sign up for a timeslot.

·         ACT, SAT, PSAT: Which Test Is for You? Monday, October 5, 7:00 p.m. Determine which test is right for you, discover the challenges of each, and learn strategies to improve your scores. Presented by C2 Education. The lecture is 60 minutes including Q&A, and is for grades 10-12 and parents. No registration required.

·         Teens, Time Management, and Motivation, Wednesday, October 7, 7:00 p.m. Don’t let the mid-semester “dip” slow down your motivation in school! This program is 90 minutes including Q&A and is for grades 7-12 and parents; no registration required.

·         Proactive Parenting for College Prep, Tuesday, October 20, 7:00 p.m. Are you concerned about your teen’s academic experience? Is all the pressure creating chaos in your household? How early is too early? How much is too much? This is an interactive and thought-provoking workshop that will prepare you and your teen for a successful transition to life after high school. You’ll get tools and resources to support your student along his or her unique road to success. You’ll leave the workshop seeing the big picture when it comes to your teen’s education plan and emotional and social well-being. Presented by college counselor Nick Soper and therapist/teen specialist Kristine Tye. For grades 9-11 and parents; 90-minute program. No registration required.
