Dr. Denise Sur has been re-elected to a fourth term as chief of staff at UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica.

Sur became the first female physician chief in the hospital’s long history when elected in 2011. She has been actively involved in physician leadership at the hospital for many years, serving as vice-chief of staff before becoming chief.

She is vice-chair for education in the UCLA Department of Family Medicine and program director for its Family Medicine Residency, as well as a professor of family medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Her professional affiliations include the American and California Academies of Family Physicians, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors.

Sur resides in Rolling Hills Estates with her husband, Mark. They have four children and two grandchildren, with another one on the way.

Joining her as officers on the hospital’s 2014 Executive Medical Board are Drs. Philip Levin and Roger Lee, who were re-elected vice-chief of staff and secretary-treasurer, respectively.

Levin is medical director of surgical services at the hospital, as well as a clinical professor of anesthesia. Lee is a hospitalist physician and chair of the medicine department.

Other physicians on the 13-member EMB, which oversees medical affairs at the hospital, are Drs. Ashley Busuttil, Charles Chandler, David Chen, Jeffrey Eckardt, Denise Freese, Peter Galier, William Growdon, Sharon Kaminker, Daniel Lee and Anthony Scaduto.

Do we still get excited with first female this or the first gay that,? Let's get over it. Women can do everything men and dogs can do, but better. Ginger did it better than Freddy, and in high heels and backwards, remember?
