Ben Allen, a candidate for State Senate in the 26th District, released his fundraising report Monday, showing a total of $235,000 in total contributions and $224,000 cash on hand after just five weeks.
Allen is a two-term elected school board member with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.
Allen said he topped the list of all the candidates in the race when it comes to the total amount received from individual contributors ($185,000) -- that is, not including personal contributions from the candidates.
"We hit the ground running in very little time,” said Allen. “This is a grassroots campaign driven by hundreds of supporters who have really stepped up. I’m committed to running a robust, aggressive, and positive campaign about my plans to help fix our state.”
Allen is a native of Santa Monica, a teacher of education law and policy at UCLA School of Law, a University of California Regent-Emeritus, and an attorney with Richardson & Patel LLP.
He is a candidate for the California State Senate in the 26th District, which includes Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Westwood, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Venice, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Westchester, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Santa Catalina Island, and San Clemente Island.
