Bail was not granted to a 59-year-old homeless man on Sunday, Feb. 9 after he was caught exposing his genitals to passers by, including a young child.

Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to the area of 20th Street and Carlyle Avenue at 1:20 pm on this day in order to investigate a case of a man who had been showing his penis to passers by.

Upon arrival the officers spoke with witnesses who told them that a man had been removing his penis from his pants, and as they walked by he had been drawing attention to it so that they would look at it.

One witness stated that she had been with her child when the man had showed them his penis.

The witnesses pointed out the suspect to the police and so the officers approached him.

The officers then discovered that this man was in possession of a pipe used for smoking drugs.

The officers arrested this homeless man and he was charged with performing a lewd act, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a violation of probation.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of The Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.

Never happened here in Camp Santa Monica. We don't have a homeless problem. Look away.
