At its Sept 14 meeting, the Santa Monica City Council delayed further discussion for the required improvements with affordable housing at the Plaza at the Arboretum. This action will bring one of Santa Monica’s largest sources of affordable housing in line with the City’s current Affordable Housing Production Program rules while also providing consistency in monitoring and enforcement.
The City amended the building’s development agreement in 1995 to include affordable housing that was never met by the property owner, leading to a suit from the City in February of this year. CSHV Arboretum, LLC is the owner of the property at 2200 Colorado Avenue since 1987. The City Council caught the building out of compliance when controversy hit for the city not following through with annual reviews for such development agreements.
