Updated Monday, Jan. 28 - 4 p.m.
A 22-year-old male motorcyclist is dead in Santa Monica’s first fatal traffic accident of the year on Pico Boulevard at the intersection of 25th Street near Cloverfield.
Santa Monica Police Department Sgt. Richard Lewis said officers responded to a 911 call at 1:03 p.m.
He said the accident involved a motorcyclist and a driver of a silver Toyota -- the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motorcyclist was traveling eastbound in the 2400 block of Pico when the Toyota, which was traveling northbound on 25th Street, made a left hand turn onto Pico when the two collided, Lewis said.
The driver of the Toyota is cooperating, Lewis said.
Pico Boulevard from Cloverfield to 25th Street has been closed to traffic while detectives investigate.
The victim's name has not been released until next of kin has been notified.

This is such a dangerous intersection. People turning onto pico from there are dangerous. Santa Monica city council needs to do something there.

I ride a motorcycle, and I too was hit on the CORNER of Cloverfield and Pico. Signal at 23rd (people can take right turns on red) turn quickly onto Pico, but don't slow down, and driver ran over me as I made left turn (lt. already red) South on Cloverfield. Ran over my front wheel, and left me, engine burning hole in my leg.
