“Quilting By the Sea” To Look Back On 25 Years:

The Santa Monica Quilt Guild will present a craft boutique to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Guild’s existence this Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 am to 4 pm. It will be held at the First United Methodist Church located at 1008 11th St., Santa Monica.

Admission is $5 a person, and free parking is located across the street.

The boutique will feature anything that can be made by an individual: purses and bags, wearable art, crafts items, baked goods, jellies, fabrics, and items that will boggle the mind with their simplicity and their necessity that will leave you guessing.

The craft boutique, entitled “Quilting by the Sea” will feature a collection of almost 100 quilts.

All the quilts to be shown were created by hand over the course of 25 years by various members of the Guild.

The quilts featured will include ones that are appliquéd, paper pieced, improvisational, and with traditional patterns.

The endless selections of fabric colors will allow the quilts to create depth and movement. The featured artist at the boutique will be Evi Newmann. She is an appliqué artist whose detail and vision is spectacular.

As the featured artist, the Guild will be showcasing a handful of her works. Every aspect of her quilting, from design to the final topstitching, is impeccable.

There will be a silent auction, where the theme is small quilts. Anyone who wishes to participate must bid on a quilt in $5-$10 increments. The minimum bid is dependent on the size, and detail of the quilts.

The Guild has created an opportunity quilt for fundraising. It was designed to reflect on its 25 years of membership.  Each member made a block with a star to represent the anniversary.

The Guild’s goals are to further quilting enjoyment and expertise through educational programs and friendships, and to promote philanthropic endeavors through quilting. The Santa Monica Quilt Guild is a non-profit organization, a 501(c)(3) public charity under the Internal Revenue Code. Membership is open to anyone interested in learning more about the art of quilt making. They are a supportive group, welcoming quilters of all skill levels.
