State’s Top Educators To Speak in L.A.

Mirror Staff

California’s leading educators will share the dais in a unique forum at the Museum of Tolerance Theater on Thursday, September 30.
The Bank of America California State Forum will assemble some of the state’s leaders in education, including State Secretary of Education Gary Hart, Superintendent of Public Education Delaine Eastin, Speaker of the Assembly Antonio Villaraigosa, California Teachers Association (CTA) President Wayne Johnson, United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA) President Day Higuchi, and the new President of the Los Angeles Board of Education Genethia Hayes. Former State Treasurer Kathleen Brown will serve as the master of ceremonies.
During the evening, Former California Governor George Deukmejian will accept the annual “Forum Award” for his lifetime of service to the people and State of California.
Themed “Education: Challenges and Solutions,” the program will address educational issues, ranging from budgets and security to student performance.
Representatives from the media will be present to pose follow-up questions to each of the speakers’ presentations.
According to event producer Scott Regberg, this is the first time such a broad mix of education leaders has shared a stage to discuss how to improve our educational system.
The program will begin with a reception in the Museum of Tolerance lobby at 5:30 p.m. The presentations are scheduled from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in the museum Theater. Seating is free and the public may attend but only by advance reservation, by calling (310) 475-5738.
The Museum of Tolerance is located at 9786 Pico Boulevard, at Roxbury Drive near Century City. For reservations, phone 310 475-5738.
The forums are sponsored by Bank of America, Southern California Gas and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to offer the public greater access to civic leaders and to encourage discourse about issues affecting the community.
The Bank of America California State Forum is not a fund-raising event and neither supports nor endorses political candidates.
