44th Annual Santa Monica Golf Classic Sets $250,000 Hole-in-One
Shoot-Out
Mirror Staff
First Federal Bank and the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to stage the forty-fourth annual Santa Monica City Championship Golf Classic, but Morgan Stanley Dean Witter has grabbed the spotlight with its $250,000 shoot-out, in which ten golfers will attempt to drill a hole-in-one from 140 yards out for a $250,000 prize.
The Classic is scheduled for Monday, September 13, at Calabasas Country Club. It will begin with a putting contest, whose top prize is a spa weekend at Santa Monicas new Le Merigot Hotel. The shoot-out will take place at 4 p.m. The awards banquet will get underway at 5 p.m.
Golfers in the Classic will compete in three flights: championship, handicap and Calloway. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each flight.
First Federal is the Classics title sponsor. Our Times, the Los Angeles Times supplement, is sponsoring the putting contest and the Malibu Bagel Cafe is supplying food and beverages.
Dr. Jim Haljun, 1999 Chamber president said, As one of our top fundraisers, this event assists the Chamber in providing services to our membership. It also allows us to address important community issues, such as economic development, education, government affairs, tourism, parking, traffic, environmental affairs and homelessness. Classic proceeds also support such Chamber events and programs as the Community Health Festival, Santa Monica Sustainable Quality Awards, Adopt-a-School and Technology Seminars.
To register for the tournament, call 310 393 9825, extension 12.
