Condition of Woman Hit by Car on Montana Upgraded to Serious

Carolanne Sudderth

Mirror Staff Writer

The condition of a pregnant woman, carrying a two-year-old child, who was struck by an automobile Thursday, July 29, on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica was upgraded from critical to serious on Saturday at UCLA Westwood hospital.

The woman and child were transferred there after being treated at the UCLA-Santa Monica emergency unit. The woman suffered internal injuries. The child received minor abrasions. Police say that the woman’s eight-month old fetus appears to be in good health.

The 33-year-old Santa Monica woman and her young son were attempting to cross Lincoln Boulevard at Montana Avenue at about 6:40 p.m. , according to the SMPD, when an 88-year-old Santa Monica man driving north on Lincoln made a left turn onto Montana Avenue and hit mother and son.

Police have not identified either the driver or the victims.

Noting that the glare of the late afternoon sun may have momentarily blinded the driver as he turned west onto Montana, the Police are investigating the accident and the driver has not been charged.
