Santa Monica East Falls to Del Rey Iin Little League All-Star Tournament

Clara Sturak

Mirror Contributing Writer

Santa Monica East’s star Cody Decker wasn’t pitching on Tuesday, he was catching. His team spent the day catching up.

Del Rey little league pitcher Todd Smith hit a home run in the first inning to put his team ahead early. Smith’s tough pitching matched the skill of Santa Monica’s pitcher, Michael Walsh, and the score stayed the same until the fourth inning when Santa Monica’s Shaun Wild scored on Junior Villanueva’s single. Both teams continued to play tough defense, sending the game into an extra inning.

But Walsh faltered, and Del Rey scored three runs on a bases-loaded hit by Tristan Smith. Santa Monica East could not overcome the deficit, and their sterling season was over. Santa Monica East finishes as District 25 Champions, Del Rey was defeated by

Torrance on Wednesday in the Division Three Championships.
