Boy Shot and Killed By His Father

On Friday, July 29, David Emile Herbert, 49, shot and
killed his 17-year-old son, Daoud, at their Santa Monica home.
Police received a report of a disturbance in the 1500
block of 16th Street at 10:25 a.m. Sergeant Hector Cavazos of the
Santa Monica Police Department said that when they arrived, they
learned that the victim had become embroiled in an argument with his
father, during which the older man pulled out a gun and fired.
Police heard of the shooting when an unnamed family
member went to a neighbor’s home and asked him to call for medical
assistance. The boy was deceased by the time police arrived. Herbert
turned himself into police at the scene without incident and was to be
arraigned Tuesday, August 3. .
