Virginia Ave. Park Expansion Project Meeting Thursday

The City of Santa Monica and the Virginia Avenue Park Expansion Working Group have scheduled a community meeting at the Park on Thursday, July 29, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to present and discuss ideas for the planned expansion of the park.

The meeting is the third in a series of Working Group meetings planned over the summer to formulate plans for two recently purchased parcels of land, totaling three-quarters of an acre at the northeast corner of 21st Street and Pico Boulevard, adjacent to the Park.

Beginning with a recap of the July 12 meeting and a presentation and discussion of options for development of the expanded park site.

The nine-member Working Group includes three Recreation and Parks Commissioners, three Virginia Avenue Park Advisory Board members, one Planning Commissioner and two youth representatives. Its task is to make recommendations on the use and treatment of the newly acquired land, which currently has buildings on it.

Plans have already been drafted to expand the existing 5.8-acre park onto the adjacent 2.9-acre parcel at the northwest corner of Pico and Cloverfield.

Virginia Avenue Park is located at 2200 Virginia Avenue, just west of the intersection of Pico and Cloverfield.
