In a letter to subscribers mailed earlier this month,
KCRW general manager Ruth Seymour announced that this year the cost of
the stations programming from National Public Radio (NPR) will
"jump more than 70%," to total almost $1 million.
Seymour goes on to say that "the reasons for this
increase are complex and involve involves changes in NPRs (member
stations) dues structure."
In light of that, she asks subscribers to renew their
subscriptions and consider increasing their annual contribution.
KCRW, on the campus of Santa Monica College, is
generally acknowledged to be one of the leading public radio stations
in the country. In addition to airing such NPR programs as
"Morning Edition," "All Things Considered" and
"Fresh Air," it also originates much programming, some of
which is nationally syndicated, including Harry Shearers "Le
Show."
