Four young artists in the Neighborhood Youth Associations (NYA)
program got a big boost when their works were sold at a recent art show and auction.
A Creative Life, the show and silent auction sponsored by the
Friends of NYA at the Rico Gallery in Santa Monica on June 26 featured works by a dozen
promising young Westside artists, along with the works by NYAs own fledgling
artists. Show chair Melissa Balmer-Manpearl said that the events purpose was to
demonstrate the rich creative community on the Westside, as well as to raise money for
NYA. Her husband, sculptor Jeffrey Manpearl, said, Art is one of those things we
simply must do so that our spirits may continue to grow.
The four young artists are Ricky Berlanga, Robert Cortez, Mary Griego and
Breenann Perez.
Proceeds from ticket and auction sales benefit NYAs summer,
after-school and preschool educational enrichment programs for children 2 to 18 in Venice
and Mar Vista.
Friends of NYA plan to make the art show and auction an annual event.
NYAs programs rely heavily on volunteer help. For further information,
