Twilight Dance Concert
Series Begins July 1
The fifteenth annual Twilight Dance Series of concerts on the Santa Monica
Pier kicks off Thursday, July 1, and winds up September 2.
The California folk rock band, Venice, will open the
series. Singer Sally Taylor will open for the band.
Hugh Masekela, the legendary South African horn player,
will perform on July 8.
On July 15, Zola Moon will open for Roomful of
Blues, an R&B band.
Chuck E. Weiss, an L.A. fixture, will appear on July 22. Los
Straitjackets will open for him.
Grammy winner, Jose Feliciano heads the bill on July 29,
and August 5 it's Eric Burdon and the New Animals, who
are, in fact, his original band.
Originators of "neuva salsa Cubana," Bamboleo
will bring its cutting edge Cuban sound to the Pier. on August 12.
August 19, Burning Spear, a leading reggae band, will
perform, followed by two of
California's leading swing bands, Bill Elliot Swing Orchestra
and Indigo Swing, on August 26.
Beausoleil Avec Michael Doucet, a premier Cajun band,
will wind it up on September 2.
The Thursday night concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.
They're produced by the Pier Restoration Corporation and Kramer, Heller
& King, who originated the series. They're free.
