SMC Graduate Wins Prestigious Award

Santa Monica College (SMC) graduate Benjamin C. Young of Los Angeles is one of eight UCLA transfer students to win a 1999-2000 Wasserman Scholarship.
As a Wasserman Scholar, he will receive an $8,000 scholarship to be paid over two years and be assigned a UCLA faculty mentor.
While at SMC, Young joined the American Comparative Literature Association and the International Comparative Literature Association. He speaks French fluently and specialized in literature and languages at the Lycee Victor Hugo in Paris. He also worked at the SMC Humanities Tutoring Center.
A graduate of SMCs Scholars Program for honors students, Young is an English major at UCLA. He plans to teach English.
