Hayden Announces Tax Credit Deadline
Mirror Staff
State Senator Tom Hayden has informed senior and disabled citizens that they may qualify for tax relief under the Homeowners and Renters Assistance Program, but they must apply before August 31, 1999.
To qualify, they must be at least 62 years old or disabled and have an income of less than $33,132. The amount of the tax credit varies depending on income, but the maximum credit is $326 for homeowners and $240 for renters.
The California Legislature voted last year to increase the qualifying income to $33,132 to keep pace with the cost of living, which means that many more people are now eligible for the program.
To apply, people must fill out and return a form to the Franchise Tax Board before the end of August. Homeowners should use form 9000 and renters should use form 9000R.
Forms may be obtained at Haydens office, Suite 202, 10951 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles 90064.
