Shooting in Santa Monica
Mirror Staff
Two women were shot in the 100 block of San Vicente Boulevard, near Ocean Avenue, on Friday night, April 24, by an unknown suspect. Both are expected to survive their injuries.
At about 9:25 p.m. Friday, three women were standing to the rear of the apartment building at 135 San Vicente, when several shots were fired and two of the women were hit.
Two passing physicians heard the shots and provided immediate medical care to the victims until paramedics from the Santa Monica Fire Department arrived. The victims were transported to local area hospitals. As of late Sunday, April 26, both were still hospitalized, and one, who had undergone surgery, was listed as being in serious condition, and the other was listed in stable condition, said SMPD Lt. Daniel Salerno. Both victims were expected to survive their injuries.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the victims may have been specifically targeted as a result of previous incidents in which they were involved,” said Salerno.
The suspect is described as a man in his mid-20s, possibly white, 5'7” to 6', approximately 170 to180 pounds, unshaven, wearing baggy clothing including a black hooded sweatshirt, and carrying a handgun. He fled east from the scene on foot in the alley behind the apartments on the north side of San Vicente. No vehicle was seen.
Anyone with additional information is encouraged to call the Santa Monica Police Department detectives at 310.458.8451 (M-F, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or the Watch Commander at 310.458.8427 (24 hours). Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call the Tip Line at 310.458.8449 (24 hours).
